April 17: Final Intramuscular Injections

This afternoon was my final round of intramuscular injections using two bags of umbilical cord stem cells. I received 40 injections into the front and back of my legs; 24 in my thighs and 16 in my calves. Altogether, eight bags of stem cells have now been used, along with one bone marrow treatment using my own stem cells, cultivated with a specialized growth factor. Now the real work begins with daily exercise and physical threapy in order to build new muscle over the next several months. So bring it on!

  1. Now I bet you wish you'd kept that treadmill--Kerry and Terry have some kind of good exercise walking machine, maybe we should consider getting one of those in addition to your bike? And don't forget we have the Hoppy Ball--maybe you'll be bouncing around the driveway in a little while! Anyway, there's no denying a home gym set-up would be great for both of us.
Only 4 days until you're both back--I'm sure you're dreading the 23 year-long flight but after that
you're home free! Jen will be so glad to have her husband back, and Miss Biscuit her Daddy! She sits in the big chair by herself in the evenings but you can tell it's just not the same for her!

  2. Russ,
I'm relieved for you that the painful injections are over -- please keep blogging. I have FSHD too and am very interested in your progress. Thank you so much for sharing your experience with all of us!

  3. Yes, I will definitely keep blogging long after I return to the States. Notwithstanding selfish reasons, I want the FSHD community to know how this treatment can help - or not - as the case may be. So good or bad, I will continue posting for the education of stem cell treatment in FSHD patients everywhere. I will include information about my daily exercise routines, as well as professional physical therapy techniques I will begin in the next month or so.
